What is Reiki Master training (Shinpiden)?

Master Level is the third and last level of Usui Reiki, called Shinpiden in Japanese and Third Degree in English. It is the teaching level. You receive the master attunement and the master symbol, and learn how to give attunements and how to teach. When you finish you can attune and teach Reiki students yourself.

It is taken at least nine months after Reiki Level 2, by students who have kept up their practice. The training is four days at the centre, 5 hours a day with a vegetarian lunch break. Before a date is agreed, Maa Nisha talks with you about your practice.

Reiki Master training syllabus

Five parts, covered over the four days.

The master attunement

Given on the first training day, in the same short seated ceremony as the earlier levels. The nine-month gap before Master Level is there so that Level 2 has settled before this attunement is given.

The master symbol

You receive the master symbol and the practice that goes with it. After the master attunement your daily self-practice drops to one to two hours.

How to give attunements

As a Reiki Master you attune your own students. You learn how the attunement for each level is given, and practise giving them.

How to teach Reiki

How to structure a Reiki course, and what to cover when you teach Level 1 and Level 2.

Passing on the Usui line

When you teach, you pass the Usui line on to students of your own. The training covers what that responsibility involves.

How long it takes to become a Reiki Master

At least a year from your first Reiki course. Only eight of those days are spent training in Nepal, one level per trip.

  1. 1

    Reiki Level 1, 2 days

    No experience needed

  2. 2

Daily practice, At least 3 months

Two to three hours a day at home

  3. 3

    Reiki Level 2, 2 days

    Symbols, client work, distance practice

  4. 4

Daily practice, At least 9 months

    Kept up at home

  5. 5

    Reiki Master, 4 days

    Attuning and teaching

Before you book Master Level

The nine-month minimum

Master Level comes at least nine months after Level 2, with daily practice kept up in between. Many students wait a year or two. There is no upper limit.

A conversation first

Because this is the teaching level, Maa Nisha talks with you about your practice before a date is agreed. When you enquire, tell us when you took Level 1 and Level 2, and with whom.

After Master Level

You can attune and teach Reiki yourself, subject to the rules where you live. Your own daily practice continues at one to two hours a day.

A Reiki Master training day

All four days follow the same plan as the earlier levels. The centre is open Sunday to Friday, 6:00am to 8:00pm, and closed on Saturday. You stay where you like and come in each day.

  1. Arrival

    Welcome

On the first morning you fill in a short form over herbal tea and meet Maa Nisha.

  2. Morning

    Attunement and master practice

The master attunement on the first morning, then the master symbol and its practice.

  3. Lunch

    Vegetarian lunch

Cooked in the centre kitchen and included on all four days.

  4. Afternoon

    Attuning and teaching

How attunements are given and how to teach Reiki to students of your own.

  5. Day four

    Certificate

Questions about teaching your first students, and your Reiki Master certificate.
