Singing Bowl Training in Kathmandu (3 and 7 Day Courses)

Learn to heal with Tibetan singing bowls in their home region. Taught by Swami Anish, Reiki Master, sound healer and clinical hypnotherapist, our 3-day Basic Course and 7-day Advanced Course take you from first strike to running paid client sessions, on authentic Himalayan instruments.

What is singing bowl training, and what do you actually learn?

Singing bowl training is a structured course that teaches you to play and apply Himalayan singing bowls in a healing context. At Jivan Parivartan it is two courses, not one: a 3-day Basic Course in technique and a 7-day Advanced Course in full client-session work, including chakra placement, gong integration and intake.

Singing bowls (sometimes called Tibetan or Himalayan bowls) are hand-hammered metal bowls played by striking or by circling a mallet around the rim. The sustained tones and vibrations slow the breath, downshift the nervous system and bring the body back to a calm, even state. In this part of the world they have been used for generations for meditation, ceremony and simple stillness.

We teach without mysticism. You will learn what each bowl actually does, how to choose, place and play it, how to structure a session that does not overwhelm the client, and how to integrate sound into existing yoga, Reiki or therapy work. Whether you want to run paid sessions or simply heal yourself and your family, the training gives you a clean, practical foundation.

The Two Courses

Choose your depth: 3-day foundation or 7-day practitioner

Both courses are residential-optional. You can join as a daytime student, or stay at our quiet guesthouse with vegetarian meals on training days and full immersion away from city noise.

What does a clean singing bowl session look like, and how do we train it?

A clean singing bowl session has six parts: setup, intake, opening, the main sound sequence, integration and closing. Each part has its own technique, timing and ethical considerations, and we drill each of them as a separate skill before combining them.

Setup and room

How to arrange bowls around the body, what surface to use, what to do about acoustics, lighting and temperature. A noisy room ruins the session.

Intake and consent

Taught only in the Advanced Course. Health intake, contraindications (pregnancy, pacemakers, epilepsy, recent trauma), informed consent and how to modify the session for each.

Opening sequence

How to land the client into stillness in the first five minutes using slow, single-bowl tones. Most beginners over-play here. We teach restraint.

The main sound sequence

Hand-played 4-bowl sequences in the Basic Course; the 7-bowl chakra sequence and gong integration in the Advanced Course. Timing, dynamics and silence between strikes are practised in pairs.

Integration and closing

How to bring the client back gently, how to close the energetic field, and how to debrief without making the client perform an experience for you.

Layering with other modalities

How to combine sound with Vedic sound healing, Reiki and meditation. The point is to support, not to compete with the existing practice.

What is included in the singing bowl training fee?

The training fee covers all instruction, instruments, course manual and certificate. The residential option adds simple guesthouse accommodation and vegetarian meals on training days. Everything you need to play, learn and rest is provided. You bring comfortable clothes, an open mind and a willingness to practise.

All instruments provided (authentic Himalayan singing bowls)
Gongs and supporting instruments for the Advanced Course
Daily small-group instruction with Swami Anish
Hands-on partner practice every day
Course manual in print, yours to keep
Certificate of completion (Basic or Advanced)

Many students pair the Advanced Course with Reiki Level 1 or Level 2 during the same visit to Kathmandu, for a combined energy-healer skillset.

Who is the singing bowl training for, and who is it not for?

This training is for adults who want to learn singing bowl healing properly, in the region the bowls come from, from a working practitioner. It is not a one-day novelty experience and it is not a substitute for medical or psychological care. We are happy to redirect you to a one-off healing session if the training is not the right format for you.

This training is a good fit if

  • You are a yoga teacher, Reiki practitioner, massage therapist or counsellor who wants to add sound
  • You are committed to a real practitioner path, not just a certificate for a CV
  • You want to run your own sound-bath events or paid one-to-one sessions
  • You appreciate quiet, traditional teaching over flashy weekend formats
  • You want to source authentic bowls in Kathmandu with expert guidance

×It is not the right fit if

  • You want a one-day taster (book a sound-bath session instead)
  • You expect sound healing to replace medical or psychiatric treatment
  • You are looking for a YouTube-style improvised approach
  • You have hearing-sensitivity, severe tinnitus or a pacemaker without medical clearance
  • You are not willing to practise daily between sessions

Singing bowl training in Kathmandu: questions students ask

No. Both courses start from the assumption that you have never played a bowl. The Basic Course teaches you how to strike, circle and hold the bowls cleanly. Musical training helps, but is not required.
The 3-day Basic Course is a foundation in bowl types, tone, technique and a 4-bowl set. The 7-day Advanced Course adds full session structure, 7-bowl chakra work, gong integration, intake and case-taking, and running paid client sessions.
All instruments are provided. We train you on authentic Himalayan singing bowls and on the gongs used in the Advanced Course. You are welcome to bring a personal bowl for tuning feedback, but you do not need one to enrol.
Daytime training is held at our Tarkeshwor centre in north-west Kathmandu. The accommodation option places you in nearby quiet guesthouse accommodation, walking distance from the practice room, with vegetarian meals on training days.
You can offer simple relaxation sessions to friends and family after the Basic Course. To work with paying clients in a structured 60-minute format, the Advanced Course is recommended because it covers intake, contraindications and session structure.
Our bowls are hand-hammered Himalayan singing bowls in the Tibetan lineage, sourced inside Nepal. The training itself is taught in the Himalayan tradition by Swami Anish, a Reiki Master, clinical hypnotherapist and working sound healer.
Yes. Many of our students are yoga teachers, massage therapists, counsellors or Reiki practitioners. The Advanced Course in particular covers how to layer sound into an existing client session without overwhelming the client.
Yes, and we recommend it. The two together give you a complete energy-healer skillset (touch-based and sound-based). Students often book Reiki Level 1 or 2 alongside the Advanced Sound course over a single visit to Kathmandu.
